Take me out to the ballgame, take me out with the crowd. That’s my motto during baseball season and the ballfield is where I spent last weekend in between the storms that ravaged Oklahoma. The McCammon 8U Coach Pitch team played in a mid-season tournament. The one-day tournament was supposed to take place in Luther on Saturday but due to a foreboding forecast the team played one game on Saturday and defeated the Bulldogs 8U eleven to one. The Tigers returned on Sunday and were victorious over all three of their opponents, defeating Prague Smith 8U eight to one, Meeker Bulldogs McAnally 8U eleven to four and defeating Luther Corbin 8U nine to one to win the championship.
Their hard work paid off and their dedication to their sport and team is commendable. To see these seven- and eight-year-olds kids give up their weekend to play ball and play hard is a joy to watch. They are developing so many life skills and I applaud their parents for getting them to practices and games. The patience and teaching skills these volunteer coaches exhibit are amazing. Coaches for the team are Stephen McCammon, Matt Davis, Matt Cockrum, Jason Smalley, and Beau and Toyie Hubbard. Team members are August Smalley, Ezekiel Hyde, Greyson Hubbard, Jackson Looney, Jordy Davis, Lincoln Smalley, Maddox Thompson, Mason McCammon, Mudd Prerry, Owen Hentges, and Wyatt Hicks. Town Talk congratulates the Tigers on winning the championship.
Congratulations are also in order for our elementary and middle school archery teams who were eligible to compete in the national archery competition held this past week in Utah. I will report their successes in next week’s paper.
