Meeker approves 2020-2021 Estimate of Needs

The Meeker Board of Education this week approved the 2020-2021 Estimate of Needs and Financial Statement.

Board members also were advised that about 75 percent of the students are attending school traditionally with the remainder taking advantage of the virtual and blended offerings.

Meeker School Supt. Jeff Pruitt presented to the board the Estimate of Needs totaling $7,779,005.67.

That includes projected revenue of $5,730,747.55 and a carryover balance of $2,048,258,12.

That compares with the Estimate of Needs for the 2019-2020 fiscal year that totaled $7,246,990.07.

Which included total revenue estimates of $5,729,309.98 plus a carryover fund balance as of June 30 last year of $1,517,680.09.

During the principals’ reports high school principal Brad Buxton provided figures showing enrollment in grades 9-12 totals 230 students and there 11 in Alternative Education.

Enrollment in grades 6-12 is 102, the figures show, with 24 of those attending virtually.

Elementary Principal Candice Gatz presented figures showing enrollment totals 297 with 24 of those attending virtually.

Ginger Pritchard, Meeker Education Center and Alternative Education Principal, said, “Overall, we have 122 students K-12 that are taking advantage of the virtual and blended learning opportunities.”

She added, “We have improved the communication this year with our parents. Meeker is ahead of a lot of schools around here,” she said.

“We’ve gone from 24 students last year to 122 this year,” she noted, referring to the Alternative Education offerings.

Pritchard also shared with the board, “We’re working very closely with our Special Education teachers this year.”

The board also, without a need for an executive session, accepted the resignations of Debbie O’Bannon, Middle School teacher and Alicia Jacobs, high school/ middle school cafeteria.

Members agreed to offering a contract for the 2020-2021 school year to LaTisha Covington, high school/middle school cafeteria and to adjunct teacher Stacy Rodgers, seventh grade geography.

In other business, the board:

Approved the 2020-2021 Activity Funds including fundraisers and expenditures.

Voted to sanction Parents Booster Club Groups for 2020-2021 for the Ag Boosters.

Approved the operation of boosters clubs in individual activity accounts for the 2020-2021 school year, including: The band boosters, basketball boosters, baseball boosters, cheer boosters, Elementary PTO, football boosters and softball boosters.
