Prague Pumpkin Festival

Lots of events are planned throughout the downtown area for the 2021 Prague Pumpkin Festival, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 2. Vision Bank is providing free pumpkins for the children’s pumpkin decorating contest, which will be in the vacant building next to Classy Cuts.

Seven more COVID deaths

The number of COVID-19 deaths in Pottawatomie and Lincoln Counties rose by seven and there have been more than 400 new positive cases for the second consecutive week, the most recent Oklahoma State Department of Health figures show.

Joseph Guercio, a senior at Meeker High School competed at the United States Powerlifting Federation meet in Tulsa on September 11th. He lifted a state record total of 1179 pounds in breaking 3 state records with a Squat of 457 lbs, Bench 248 lbs, deadlift 474 lbs.

Co-driver charged in I-44 dustup

A co-driver of a semi-tractor truck faces a felony and a misdemeanor following a reported altercation recently on the Turner Turnpike. Formal charges were filed on Aug. 31 in Lincoln County District against Ashila Lee Holmes, 25.

Deferred sentence in DUI case

A driver from Wellston arrested in July on a felony charge of driving under the influence of alcohol has pleaded guilty and has been given a deferred sentence. Donald Gene Barnett, 51, was arrested by State Trooper Barrett Karlin on July 3.

McLoud Alumni news

The McLoud High School Alumni Association held its fall meeting of Tuesday, Sept. 14th, at the Ferrell building in McLoud. Those attending enjoyed a good “finger lick’n” chicken lunch with side dishes and homemade desserts. Various topics were tabled.

A Meeker man is facing a first degree burglary charge following his arrest by law enforcement officers in late July. Formal charges of first degree burglary were filed in Lincoln County District Court on July 30 against Michael Jay Stone, 32.
