McLoud falls late to Bethel

McLoud’s High School football suffered a heartbreaking loss to the Bethel Wildcats 41-34, after leading with five minutes to go. McLoud, now 1-1 on the season, travels to rival Harrah Friday night with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m. The Redskins’ Coach Rusty Hall said, “This is rival week.

Prague came from behind in the second quarter and beat Stroud, 68-22, to finish the non-district schedule at 3-0. The Red Devils are off this week before heading to Millwood on Sep. 24 to open district play. Both teams came with their offenses revved, with Stroud leading in the second quarter.

Meeker’s Town Board has filled a vacant position and later meeting as the Public Works Authority voted to uphold the termination of a PWA employee. Their actions came during a special meeting last week.

Eight more COVID deaths in area

The number of COVID-19 deaths in Pottawatomie and Lincoln Counties rose by eight and there have been more than 400 new positive cases, the most recent Oklahoma State Department of Health figures show.

Chandler school board approves finances

The Chandler School Board this week approved the Estimate of Needs and the financial statements for Fiscal Year 2021-2022. School Supt. Melody Toma said the General Fund totals $11,161,350.95. The building fund totals $757,685.60 and total of the Child Nutrition Fund is $607,239.17, she stated.

Arraignment set in Stroud man’s homicide

A Harrah man charged with first degree murder in the death of a Stroud resident has been bound over to stand trial. Cole Berginer Guy, then 19, was formally charged Feb. 22 this year in Lincoln County District Court, accused of shooting and killing Gabriel Chumley with deliberate intent on Feb.

Meeker board approves finances, bus purchases

Meeker’s School Board this week approved the Estimate of Needs and Financial statement for 2021-2022. School Supt. Jeff Pruitt explained to the board the 2021-2022 Estimate of Needs total $8,132,750. “The auditor prepares the Estimate of Needs for us based on the previous year’s numbers.
