Homer and Sue Smith of Chandler will celebrate their Diamond Anniversary recognizing 60 years of marriage. Friends and family are invited to a come-and-go reception 3-6 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 11, at the Chandler Senior Citizens Center.

The Chandler Area Chamber of Commerce meeting will be at noon, Tuesday, Sept. 14, at the Route 66 Interpretive Center. The caterer will be Big Willy’s. The guest speaker is Jeanie Jones, a licensed therapist and experienced workplace trainer.

Crummy start to dove season

This year’s dove season opener on Sep. 1, in terms doves of actually seen, can be described as the absolute worst. My cousin Dan Snare and I hunted the late afternoon and evening north of Calumet on property owned by my late cousin Bill Mansfield and his wife.

Arrest in burglary

A Meeker man is facing a first degree burglary charge following his arrest by law enforcement officers in late July. Formal charges of first degree burglary were filed in Lincoln County District Court on July 30 against Michael Jay Stone, 32.
