Cloyce Vernon Leake, age 85, of Chandler passed away on May 27, 2022. A memorial service was held Sunday, May 29, 2022, at First Christian Church of Chandler and internment was at the Davenport Cemetery on Tuesday, May 31, 2022.
He was born September 28, 1936, to William and Minnie (Kalka) Leake. He grew up on the family farm that was homesteaded in 1902. He attended Davenport High School where he graduated in 1954. As a member of FFA he earned the highest honor of American Farmer.
Vernon was married to Betty Jean Sporleder from August 1957 until her death in 1972. They had two children, Kimberly Jean and Michael Vernon. He married Dorothy Yvonne Leake in Texas on November 26, 1973.
Vernon retired from OG&E in 1994 after 37 years. However, he never retired from farming. He raised cattle and cared for the land, which eventually was recognized as a Centennial Farm of Oklahoma. He was an active member of First Christian Church, leading many major projects including construction of the parsonage and organizing food baskets.
Preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers, William Eldon Leake, Jr. and Glen Leake; and a sister, Helen Leake-Brown. He is survived by his wife, Yvonne; a daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly and Monty Bates; and a son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Ruthy Leake. He was blessed by his children, but also by his six grandchildren; grandsons, Aaron Leake, Travis Bates and his wife Shavonne, Ryan Anderson, Hoyt Fleeting, Rennon Fleeting and his wife Aida, granddaughter, Chloe Leake and fiancé Matt Spivey; along with eight great-grandchildren.
