Legako earns honors at Biola University

Gabrielle Legako was named to Biola University’s Dean’s List for academic excellence. The university is a nationally ranked Christian university in La Mirada, Calif.

Alsip and Barton are October Lions

Chandler High School seniors Dalton Alsip and Victoria Barton have been chosen as Lions of the Month by the Lion’s Club for the month of October. Barton, the daughter of Randall and Kimberly Barton, is participating in the Pre-engineering Program at Gordon Cooper Technology Center in Shawnee, Okla.

James Darrell Poteet Jr.

James Darrell Poteet Jr., longtime Agra/Tryon resident, was born to James Sr. and Joanne (Walker) Poteet on July 18, 1954, in Cushing, Okla. He died Saturday, September 12, 2020, at the age of 66 years.

Lincoln County commissioner meeting

Lincoln County Commissioners this week adopted two resolutions and tabled another, and authorized the sheriff to apply for a grant and approved and signed a performance grant. Commission Chairman Lee Doolen said a CARES Act resolution was adopted for reimbursement of funds that will be placed into the account it was taken from.

The Stroud American Legion Auxiliary Salutes September Veteran of the Month

Michael Horwath is originally from Vassar, Michigan but moved to Stroud from Pinetop-Lakeside, Arizona. Horwath is the Director of Quality and the Facilities Manager at both Mint Turbines, LLC and FAA certified part 145 Repair Station. He has over 34 years of tactical and commercial derivative fixed and rotary wing aircraft and turbine engine maintenance experience, including 26 years of quality assurance and quality control leadership and quality engineer experience. Horwath retired from the United States Army in which he served in a variety of positions. He concluded his 26 years in the military as an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Company First Sergeant. He and his wife Chong recently purchased the Lillian Parker home and are in the process of renovating it. They are the parents of five adult children.

Meeting of Auxiliary

The American Legion and the American Legion Auxiliary met on September 14th. This was the first regular monthly meeting held since the pandemic started. Those attending the Legion meeting were Commander Michael Horwath, Steve Bivin, Brandon Quinn and David Carroll. Auxiliary members in attendance were Diana McGuire, Julie Bivin, Marsha Morgan, Delores Hamlin, Jo Braden, Maxine Jordan, Velma Brant, Diana Reed, Linda Waller and Aleta Smalley.
