Dale hires new elementary school principal

The Dale Board of Education this week voted to hire a new Elementary School Principal and a new elementary teacher.

Dale Acting School Supt. Ky Wilkins said the new Elementary Principal is Courtney Howser.

He advised she is currently with the Gordon Cooper Technology Center in Shawnee.

Howser will take over the position for the 2021-2022 school year. She replaces longtime Elementary Principal Bruce Throckmorton, who is retiring at the end of the current school term.

The new elementary teacher is Kaylee Townley.

During his superintendent’s report, Wilkins reviewed a detailed financial update comparing the current fiscal year to the previous one.

He presented figures showing through April of this year the district has spent $208,268 less than a year ago in April.

Actual local revenue received is $36,553 more than through April of 2020 and the building fund is $24,061 above what it was a year ago.

The district’s cash balance is $562,960, $160,291 down from a year ago’s $723,251, he said.

That’s primarily due to a decline in state aid the district has received.

Through April of this year, the district has received $2,344,805 in state aid.

That compares to $2,649,946 last year, Wilkins said.

Stimulus money received by the district totals $430,692 and it must be spent within the next three years, Wilkins explained.

The county educational sales tax fund balance through April is $264,447, Wilkins advised the board.

In other business, the board approved temporary appropriations of $5.2 million.

Board members also adopted a resolution for schools and libraries universal services (E-Rate) for 2021-2022.

The resolution authorizes filing a form for 2021-2022 and the payment of the applicant’s share upon arrival of funding and receipt of the services.
