Community events planned

The Citizens for the Improvement of Chandler are working to create more events for the community.

David Burgess has only been the president of the Citizens for the Improvement of Chandler for 95 days, but he has been working to create multiple events for the community. Burgess has known about Citizens for the Improvement of Chandler for his entire life with his mother and grandmother being invested in the Community Action Program.

“I am excited about all of it. I’ve been in this community for my whole life. I am just excited to see excitement again in the community, and other organizations for our kids, our future,” Burgess said.

They are currently hosting multiple basketball skills camps for third through eighth graders boys and girls throughout June and July.

It costs $25 per child which covers both sessions, and each of the instructors have collegiate experience. The girl’s sessions are from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on June 11 and 24. The boy’s sessions are from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on June 7 and 21. The camp is held at the CIC Community Center or more commonly known as the Douglas Gym. There will be another camp in July, and eventually they will have a three-on-three game that will lead to a league.

From 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on June 25, they will be having a bean dinner fundraiser at the CIC Community Center or more commonly known as the Douglas Gym. This event is meant to raise money for a new scoreboard and pads for the poles to keep the players safe.

Anyone interested in giving and coming to this event may contact David Burgess at (405) 258-4079 or on Facebook at Citizens For The Improvement of Chandler (CIC).

They are also having a monthly fish fry from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. starting on the second Saturday of July. The camps are for the kids, but the other events are for the community.
