Mullen and Yates are March Lions

Chandler High School seniors Emyley Mullen and Ashton Yates have been chosen as Lions of the Month by the Lion’s Club for the month of March.

Emyley is the daughter of Bill and Stephanie Mullen. She has taken Advanced Placement English classes all four years of high school. A consistent member of the honor roll, she has earned an invitation to the Academic Banquet for two years.

She earned the STEM Award for academic excellence in science, technology, engineering and math. A member of the student council, Emyley demonstrated leadership abilities while serving as sophomore vice president and four years as secretary of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America.

She was a four-year member of CHS varsity cheer, serving as captain for two years and helping the group qualify for state competition. They took first place in State Gameday competition and earned the Academic Award for three years.

Emyley also participated in Stunt, Drama, Stagecraft, Positive Peers, Postponing Sexual Involvement, and Language Club. She was on the Prom committee, attended Rotary Youth Leadership Award leadership camp and is active in the youth group at First Baptist Church.

She has given back to the community by working at the Regional Food Bank and participating in Stamp Out Starvation and Relay for Life.

She helped out military veterans and active duty soldiers by collecting needed items and visiting the veteran’s hospital to present cards and sing. Emyley helped clean the memorial garden at the Lincoln County Museum of Pioneer History, participated in Cheer Clinic for elementary students and took part in Adopt A Family helping to brighten the holidays for others.

Emyley will graduate this year with a 3.89 grade point average She currently works as a barista at Manvel Avenue Coffee Company.

Ashton, the son of Clint and Amanda Yates, maintains a 3.6 GPA. He has taken four years of Advanced English and was selected to serve on the Banc First Student Board of Directors.

He has been active in athletics during his years at CHS. A four-year member of the football team, he served as captain for one year and was named All District Football Player (Receiver). He ran track qualifying for state in track and field for two years and named Best Mid-distance Runner in 2018. He also played basketball and was involved in Powerlifting.

Ashton participated in Postponing Sexual Involvement and was a student council representative.

He was involved in the community through Relay for Life and the food pantry. He aided veterans by collecting needed items and delivering Christmas cards. He shared his track skills as a mentor and Track and Field Day volunteer for elementary students. Ashton participated in a toy drive, helped clean up the museum garden and participated in Unity in the Community. He is a member of the worship team at Victory Life Church.

During his high school years, he has worked at Williams Grocery Store and Walmart. Following graduation, Ashton plans to attend Oklahoma State University in Stillwater with a major in psychology working toward a career as a counselor.
