It’s that time of year again. The Chamber of Commerce’s Stroud Summer Festival is this Saturday, June14.CometoMain Street/Route 66 in Stroud from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. and enjoy a fun day.
There will be lots of vendors to shop with, food trucks,acarshowandmuch more. This year the festival willhaveaduallanebounce house. This will be in the children’s area along with other activities all sponsored by Stroud Arts. Cost is $5.00 for an all-day pass.
You will also have a chance to dunk some of your local favorites in the dunktank.WatchFacebook for a list of “dunkees” and their times.
Also happening this Saturday, which is Flag Day, is a dedication ceremony of our Gold Star Memorial Marker in Ed. Smalley Centennial Park. The Gold Star is to honor families that have lost family members due to war. This will be the first one of these memorial markers ever placed in Oklahoma.
It will join our Blue Star Memorial which was dedicated last year. Stroud is the only park in Oklahoma that will have both markers. Judy Grotts spearheaded the effort to have these markers placed in Stroud. The Cushing Gladiolus Club and the National Garden Clubs, Inc. sponsor them. Stroud’s own Linda Smith is the president, and Judy is the treasurer of this club.
The Stroud Public Library started its summer reading series in June. Tiny Tots is on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. An adult needs to remain with their toddler during this activity.
Kindergarten through fifth grade program is from 2:00 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. There will be stories, snacks, and art. Call the library to register your child at 968-2567.
Upcoming community activities include Stroud City Council meeting at 5:00 p.m. Thursday, June 12 at City Hall, Masonic Lodge all-you-can-eat breakfast from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 14 at the Ag Building and Father’s Day is this Sunday, June 15.
Stroud Alumni Association received word of the passing of another one of our alums, John Smith, Class of 1978. His Celebration of Life was held on Friday, June 6, in Glenpool. Town Talk offers condolences to John’s family and friends.
Gideon’s Sandlot baseball team played in the Max Muncy World Series tournament this past weekend in Melissa, Texas sponsored by the Five Tool baseball organization.They won their three pool games only allowing two runs in three games.
Gideon pitched the first game and allowed only two hits and zero runs over seven innings, striking out three and walking none. He was named “player of the game” by Five Tool. Sandlot lost by one point in their first tournament game but overall had a great four game showing. Gage Bailey, another Stroud baseball player, also played in the tournament with his team, Fuel –Voegele. Once again, August and Lincoln had the weekend off.
