The second winter blast for this year that brought the coldest temperatures yet apparently caused few problems in either Lincoln or Pottawatomie Counties last week.
Lincoln County Emergency Management Director Charlotte Brown said earlier this week, “We had no fatalities. There were some power outages in the southwest portion of Lincoln County but the power company fixed that pretty promptly.”
She said other than that, “It was noneventful.”
District 1 Commissioner Melissa Dennis in Pottawatomie County said, “We used 10 wheeler loads of sand/salt mixture and 3,000 gallons of brine pretreatment.”
Several schools in Lincoln County closed altogether while the others went virtual or remote for several days. The same was true with schools throughout Pottawatomie County.
The Lincoln County Courthouse in Chandler and the Pottawatomie County Courthouse in Shawnee both were shut down multiple days.
Both the Lincoln County Junior Livestock Show at the County Fairgrounds in Chandler and the Pottawatomie County Junior Livestock Show at the Heart of Oklahoma Exposition Center in Shawnee were forced to adjust their schedules because of the ice, sleet and snow on the roads.
Both canceled their show’s judging scheduled for Tuesday and made appropriate adjustments for the safety of all involved.
High school playoffs were also adjusted due to the treacherous weather conditions.
Forecasters have predicted much nicer weather for all of this week with the mercury reaching highs in the 60s and 70s with no rain expected until at least Sunday.
