Agra man granted continuance in child sex abuse case

AnAgra man’s motion for continuance has been granted.

John David Somers, Jr., 33, is facing two counts of child sexual abuse. He has entered an innocent plea and been set for the April docket.

Appearing recently before District Judge Sarah Bridge, the matter was continued by agreement to the June 2025 jury term. Somers has been set for the felony disposition docket on Apr. 29, 2025 and jury trial call docket at 9 a.m. on May 29.

Somers was formally charged in Lincoln County District Court on Jan. 4, 2024 with the two counts. He first appeared before Associate District Sheila Kirk in December who set his bond at $25,000 with the stipulation he have no contact with the victim.

At the conclusion of his preliminary hearing on May 2, he was bound over. During his arraignment before District Judge John Canavan, he waived a speedy trial and pleaded innocent.

District Judge Sarah Bridge has continued his case until 9 a.m. on Jan. 14, 2025.

Judge Canavan set him for disposition in December and his cause tobeplacedontheFebruary jury term.

Somers made his initial appearance on Jan. 4 before Special Judge Emily Mueller.

Somers is accused of committing the two alleged crimes on Dec. 23, 2023 at a residence in Agra.

He was arrested by Lincoln County deputies in Agra the night of Dec. 23 and transported to the Lincoln County Jail in Chandler.
