Music is definitely in the air this spring, with the high school choirs at Chandler and Stroud set to compete at the OSSAA state competition.
Both recently competed at districts last week. Chandler received superior ratings for their high school and junior high choirs. Stroud also received superior ratings for their high school honor choir. Only high school choirs that receive superior ratings are invited to move on to the state competition.
“I’m very proud of them. Proud of all the work they’ve done,” said Chandler choir director Trinity Holland.
Holland took over the choir at the beginning of the semester and said that the students have been working hard since Jan. 2 to prepare for both competition and their singing Valentine’s fundraiser that they held on Feb. 14. Chandler took two choirs to competition - mixed chorus and treble chorus - with each group performing two songs.
“They’re a very good group of kids. They put in a lot of work, and a lot of them are involved in many other activities. So they’re just hardworking individuals, and they’ve done an awesome job,” Holland said.
Additionally, at the high school level, Chandler received a total of 16 superior ratings and three excellent ratings for solos and ensembles at districts. For junior high, they received a total of 10 superior ratings.
According to director Charlotte Couch, Stroud also received superior ratings for its high school choir and will be competing at state. Last Friday, they competed in solos and ensembles and received several superior ratings. Those small groups and individuals will also advance to the state competition.
