County commissioners take no action on 911 trust authority

Lincoln County commissioners this week began discussing how to possibly change or dissolve the 911 TrustAuthority by a vote of the people.

Following some discussion, no action was taken by commissioners.

District 3 Commissioner Lee Doolen who is also commissioners’ chairman opened the discussion noting, “This is the third time we’ve been in this position with the 911 Board. I think there needs to be better county oversight.

“We can turn that into a really good dispatch system,” he said.

Doolen indicated, “They need to dissolve themselves or take it to the vote of the people” Legal counsel for the commissioners mentioned she had visited with the State Attorney General’s Office.

It was mentioned that modifying it rather than dissolving it might be a possbility.

But Doolen stressed, “We’re stuck with what the ballot language says.”

He favors that the money and daily operations run through the county.

Doolen further commented that he wanted to just bring the issue up for discussion that he thinks needs to continued.
