County, state candidate filings

Contests have developed in Lincoln County for three elected county positions in the June 18 primary election and one official has won another term without opposition.

In Pottawatomie County, there will be three races for county positions in the primary election and one official also has won another four-year term when she was unopposed by the end of the filing period.

In Lincoln County, Court Clerk Cindy Kirby won a new four-year term when no one filed against her.

Incumbent County Clerk Alicia Wagnon will be opposed in the June 18 primary by Dina Wayland Frazier.

With Sheriff Charlie Doughtery retiring at the end of his current term, five have filed for that position including Chad Pavlicek, Aaron Bennett, Kevin Wayne Garrett, Larry William Stover and Jim Hampton.

District 2 County Commissioner Marlon Miller is seeking a second term and will be opposed by Bobby W. Johnson.

Election Board Secretary Melissa Stambaugh said all of the candidates filing for county offices are Republicans.

In Pottawatomie County, five candidates have filed for the District 2 County Commissioner position including incumbent Greg Rush. Others are Scott W. Hawkins, Justin Caldwell, John Stanley and Terry Gregory.

County Court Clerk Valerie Ueltzen won another four-year term to her office when she was unopposed.

Incumbent County Clerk Rashel Flewallen drew an opponent when former and retired Pottawatomie County Commissioner Buck Day filed against her on the last day of the filing period.

With Sheriff Mike Booth retiring, two have filed to succeed him including his Undersheriff Travis Dinwiddie and longtime Shawnee Police Officer Freeland Wood, who recently retired after 37 years.

Pottawatomie County Election Board Secretary Patricia Carter said all the candidates filing for county offices are Republicans.

Area state legislative candidates who filed for office include: House of Representatives District 32, Incumbent State Rep. Kevin Wallace, a Republican, is opposed by two Republicans, Jason Shilling and Jim Shaw.

District 26, Incumbent State Rep. Dell Kerbs, Republican, is opposed by Kerri Keck, a Democrat.

District 28, Incumbent State Rep. Danny Williams, Republican, opposed by Darlene Wallace, Republican.

District 27, Incumbent State Rep. Danny Sterling, won unopposed.

Senate District 17, Incumbent State Sen. Shane Jett, Republican, opposed by three Republicans, former Sen. Ron Sharp, Rachael Melot and Cody Swearingen.
