Lions of the month announced

Shakoda Wright and Shelby Knight were named the Lions of the Month for March by the Chandler Lions Club.

Shakoda Wright is the daughter of Takeilo Wright and Cassondra Taylor. She has a younger sister, Iridessa, and a younger brother, Jeramiah.

Wright has won many awards. She received the Outstanding English Student Award, Outstanding Speech and Debate Speech Award, was the STAR of the Week for the Lion’s Tale Show, was an Oklahoma Girls State senator, was a BPA Ethics and Professionalism National Qualifier, made the Oklahoma Top Ten in BPA Ethics and Professionalism, and won the American Legion Outstanding Citizen Award.

Wright was Student Rotarian of the Month for October, is a Student Council representative, an officer in the Native American Student Association (NASA), is vice-president of Business Professionals of America (BPA), and on the Chandler High School yearbook staff.

She has also attended the Gordon Cooper Technology Center (GCTC) Leadership Academy, was the vice president of the Gordon Cooper BPA chapter, and a presenter at GCTC graduation. Additionally, Wright was a program coordinator for Native American History Month and presented at the 2023 Veteran’s Day Program.

She has been very involved in the community. Wright was on the 2024 Oklahoma Council on Economic Education Invest in Girls, volunteered at the 2024 American Legion Fall Fest, a presenter at the 2024 Citizens for the Improvement of Chandler Juneteenth Program, volunteered at CIC Game Night in 2024 and volunteered at the East Side Elementary book fair.

She also volunteered with Stamp Out Starvation, Unity in the Community, Pottawatomie County Food Bank, CIC Open Gym Concession, Helping Hands Community Foundation and the 2021 Ice Cream Festival.

After high school, Wright plans to attend the University of Central Oklahoma and major in psychology.

Shelby Knight is the daughter of Houston and Amanda Knight, who own their own business, Knights Cleaning Service, which cleans residential homes. She has one older sibling.

In 2024, Knight won the Chandler Livestock Judging Award. She is a member of the Chandler Chapter of Future Farmers of America (FFA), the Chandler Show Livestock Team, and the Livestock Judging Team.

She attends Sherri’s School of Dance and SuperStarz Tumbling, and is on the cross country team and a Media Center office aide.

Knight’s community involvement includes being a member of The Connection Assembly of God Church in Davenport and volunteering at the Fall Festival.

After graduation, Knight plans to start her own cleaning business.
