Manslaughter trial continued to October

A jury trial has been continued until October for a woman facing a first degree manslaughter charge in a fatal traffic collision that killed a Prague man.

Formal manslaughter charges were filed in Lincoln County District Court on Apr. 21, 2021 against Haley Jordan Price, then 30, of Ada, who also was charged with feloniously driving while under the influence of alcohol.

District Judge Cindy Ashwood had scheduled Price’s jury trial for 9 a.m. June 6. During a recent disposition docket, Price announced she had new legal counsel. The judge granted her request for a continuance until Oct. 17.

During an arraignment earlier this year, Judge Ashwood also received Price’s not guilty pleas and advised her of her rights and that it was an 85 percent crime.

In November, following the conclusion of her preliminary hearing, Price was bound over to stand trial.

The first degree manslaughter charge accuses Price on about Oct. 26, 2020 of unlawfully engaging in a misdemeanor. She reportedly was driving a 2014 Honda CRV while her driving privileges were suspended and her vehicle crossed the center line of the roadway colliding with a 2010 Toyota Tacoma driven by Tommy Rogers.

A probable cause affidavit filed in the case states Rogers died the following evening from the injuries he sustained in the collision. Rogers was 81.

Supplemental information filed by prosecutors shows that on March 8, 2013, Price was convicted in Pontotoc County of the misdemeanor offense of DUI.

The affidavit states that Price had a previous DUI conviction in Pontotoc County on Sep. 17, 2010, in addition to her conviction on May 8, 2013 in that county. In both convictions, she received suspended sentences.
