Meeker Town Board of Trustees this week voted to apply for a Rural Economic Action Plan grant from the Central Oklahoma Economic Development District for road improvements.
“It’s a $100,000 grant with no match, although our chances are better of getting it with some match,” Town Administrator Jeff Wilbourn said.
The Trustees approved the certification for the REAP grant allowing Mayor Donna Weber to sign and submit the application for it.
They adopted the REAP grant resolution from COEDD authorizing application for financial assistance for road improvements.
Trustees also listened to a presentation by Paul Simpson regarding Air Evac service.
Simpson explained to Trustees the costs of individual, family and global family memberships, noting, that when a ground or air ambulance is needed, “We pick up the balance of whatever the insurance doesn’t pay.”
The agenda item was for discussion only so Trustees could take no action on it Monday evening.
Trustees also approved applying for the TSET Discovery grant.
Grant Administrator Leslie Wilbourn informed Trustees that the Meeker Industrial Authority has successfully been authorized to apply for a PRO Housing grant.
She also advised them the deadline to hear something on the PRICE Main Grant was Oct. 1 which has passed but no word has been received yet on it.
Trustees tabled taking action regarding the Meeker Lake and requiring animals to be leashed and any other rules that apply to animal control inside the city limits.
The Town’s legal counsel Jim Hodgens will draw up an amendment to the current ordinance.
In other business, Trustees: Allowed Desiree Pitts, CPA, to begin helping with the budget process and addressing the balance sheet transactions to assist in the audit preparation process.
Approved paying the liability insurance plan from Oklahoma Municipal Assurance Group in the amount of $10,270.86.
Accepted a check of $1,017.32 from OMAG Municipal Liability Protection Plan Retention Program to reimburse the Town of Meeker for 20 percent of the 20212022 premium. The municipality had no losses for that fiscal year.
Meeting as the Public Works Authority, Trustees approved paying OMAG for liability insurance in the amount of $4,545.14.
