‘Not guilty’ plea in Lincoln County shooting

A man facing three felonies following a Lincoln County shooting near Wellston in February of 2023 that injured a person has pleaded not guilty and has been set for trial.

Casey Mac Wilson, 42, of Midwest City, was formally charged in Lincoln County District Court on Feb. 23, 2023, with assault with a dangerous weapon, or in the alternative felony discharging a firearm into a dwelling and possession of a firearm after former felony conviction.

Appearing before District Judge John Canavan recently, he was ordered to appear for the felony disposition docket at 9 a.m. on May 7. The judge scheduled his jury trial for 9 a.m. June 10.

He first appeared Feb. 16 before Special Judge Emily Mueller who set his bond at $75,000.

Wilson made his initial appearance on Feb. 23, 2023, During his arraignment before District Judge John Canavan, Wilson pleaded not guilty. The judge received the plea.

Information in court records shows Wilson already has been convicted of at least 18 felonies, According to a probable cause affidavit filed in the case, Wilson is currently on probation.

Supplemental information filed in the case by the District Attorney shows the previous felony convictions began in 2016 and the most recent was in March of 2022.

He was convicted at least twice of assault and battery upon a police or other law officer.

Among the convictions are those in Canadian, Cleveland, Garfield, Oklahoma and Pottawatomie Counties, the information states.

In Count 1, Wilson is accused on Feb. 12 in Lincoln County of assault with a dangerous weapon with intending to do bodily harm without justifiable or excusable cause shooting at Steven McAlister with a firearm.

The alternative, Count 2, charges him on the same day of discharging a firearm into the home of Steven McAlister at 337179 East Pecan Meadows Lane in Wellston.

The third count accuses him of possessing a firearm after prior felony conviction by having in his possession and immediate control a dangerous or deadly firearm after he had been convicted on March 23, 2016 in Oklahoma County District Court of Domestic Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon, a felony.

In the affidavit, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Capt. Larry Stover, Sr. states he was contacted by dispatch of the situation that had reportedly taken place at McAlister’s residence and Stover went to see McAlister at St. Anthony Hospital in Shawnee where he was being treated.

The affidavit states Shawnee Police had called Lincoln County Comm Center to advise them of a shooting that had taken place in Lincoln County. Deputy Sheriffs Jimmy Brown and Kevin Roe went to the Wellston address and secured the scene.

Stover said that he arrived at the residence later and that Deputy Lt. Tony Long applied for and secured a search warrant where they discovered three Luger 9mm spent casings near the porch and also blood droplets.

Stover said he was able to recover a bullet that had gone into a tote in the dining room that had deflected in the residence.
