Rotarians of the month named

Maddox Metheny and Jaycee Cross have been named Rotarians of the Month for January by the Chandler Rotary Club.

Maddox Metheny is the son of Geoff and Laura Metheny. He has lived in Chandler all his life and attended Chandler Public Schools since Pre-K.

Metheny maintains a 3.62 grade point average and is actively involved in several extracurricular activities. He is a member of the BancFirst Student Board and the Rotary Club. He was also a four-year member of the varsity football team, where he earned the title of All-District Offensive Lineman. In powerlifting, he achieved both the Regional Champion and Regional Runner-up titles. Additionally, he was a member of the varsity baseball team, where he was named to the 66 All-Conference team and recognized as All-District First Baseman.

Metheny’s community service experience includes instructing at youth baseball camps, participating in the Angel Tree program and the Salvation Army, mowing lawns for the elderly, and helping to organize a donation drive for a nursing home.

Following graduation, Metheny intends to play college baseball and major in an undecided field.

Jaycee Cross is the daughter of Brandon and Amanda Cross. She has a GPA of 4.0 and is ranked first in her class. She has taken advanced English for four years.

Cross has received the American History Award of Excellence, Geometry Award of Excellence and an Academic Excellence Award. She is a member of the Oklahoma High School Honor Society and was Basketball Academic State Champion.

She is also a BPA national qualifier and the 2024 Snow Queen. As a member of the Chandler High School pom team, she helped the team win the state championship in hip-hop and jazz in 2022. She is the current captain of the cheer team.

Cross’s other activities are PSI, Positive Peers, Gifted and Talented, Business Professionals of America (BPA), BancFirst Student Board, Lions Club, basketball, and baseball manager.

She has made presentations for PSI for three years and taken part in Wise Guys Girl Power for three years. Cross has also volunteered at the Chandler Library’s Summer Reading Program, made Valentine’s Day and Christmas cards for the local nursing home, served at Soup-Da-Doup and volunteered as a cheer coach for Chandler Youth Football Association.

She works as a lifeguard at the Chandler Public Pool and as a coach at Superstarz Tumbling and Competitive Cheer.

After graduation, she hopes to become a sports physical therapist. Cross plans to attend college somewhere close to home and major in exercise science while cheering
