Tryon hires Buznick, Hobbs

Patrick Buznick and Brianna Hobbs were added as reserve police officers to the Tryon Police Department.

Before they can start they will have to meet with Chief Mohammad Alzyoud and get their uniforms ordered.

Mayor Sandy Munier said they will be meeting with the Chief to plan out when they can attend the CLEET training.

Board members tabled action on getting Geosafe for officers, but purchased two body cams from Safety Vision for $815.70

The ordinance regarding the living distance for the police chief was also changed from a 20 mile to 10 mile radius of Tryon Town Hall.

The board members also approved to open up Tryon Town Hall on June 1. Other actions made by board members include:

Approval of the monthly department reports, financial reports and monthly claims.

Tabled any action regarding getting someone to set up a website. Approval of getting a Staples card for ordering the office supplies.

Tabled any action on getting the electrical work done for the town hall.

No action was taken regarding the preliminary budget numbers or on inventorying the hydrants.

Acting as the Tryon Utility Authority, board members renewed the UbMax subscription for the utility pay/bill software for the amount of $510.00.

No action was taken regarding sick/vacatiuon leave for salaried employees.

Approved advertising for the utility (mower) helper with the maximum time of 35 hours a week and paying minimum wage.

Approval of the variance for the Duncan water bill.

No action was taken on getting the sewer/water maps digitally scanned, surveying and rerouting the risers and receiving an update from Elton about the trash pumps.

Stroud school board hires a new teacher

After a fifteen minute executive session, the Stroud School board approved hiring Kali Petrie as a teacher and coach for the 2020-2021 school year.

Petrie will be teaching STEM at Stroud Middle School.

Stroud Superintendent Joe Van Tuyl said she will be coaching a variety of sports including middle school softball and middle school girls basketball.

Petrie received her Bachelors degree from Rowlands College and her Masters Degree in Sports Administration from East Central University. Before coming to Stroud, Petrie taught

Also during the executive session, board members approved the resignation of Regan Bowler, approved the extra duty contracts for athletic and non-athletic coaching assignments for the 2020-'2021 school year.

Wellston school board approves contracts

After an hour and 43 minutes in executive session, the Wellston School Board hired a new teacher and approved a variety of contracts for the 2020-2021 school year.

Nick Hayes was hired as an Agriculture Education teacher.

The Prague School Board approved the contracts of the temporary and probationary teachers for fiscal year 2021.

Stroud City Council reappoints Geiger, Hubbell, LeMaster

During the monthly meeting, the Stroud City Council reappointed Rachael Geiger, Tom Hubbell and Raquel LeMaster on the Stroud Library board.
