Guilty plea entered in DUI

A Chandler man who was facing a felony count of driving under the influence of alcohol waived his preliminary hearing and during his scheduled arraignment changed his plea to guilty.

Daniel James Walker, 27, was formally charged last Nov. 3 in Lincoln County District Court. He also was cited for failure to dim headlights, a misdemeanor.

On Jan. 20, before Special Judge Emily Mueller, he and the state waived his right to a preliminary hearing. He also waived judicial conflict.

Judge Mueller scheduled his arraignment for 9:30 a.m. March 1.

Appearing before District Judge Cindy Ashwood on March 1, Walker pleaded guilty to the DUI charge. Upon the state’s recommendation as a result of a plea agreement, the plea was received by the court and he was found guilty as charge.

Judge Ashwood handed Walker a two-year suspended sentence, ordered he pay a $300 fine, assessed him a $100 VCA, court costs and she dismissed the charge of failure to dim headlights.

The judge also ordered Walker to complete 40 hours of Community Service, obtain ADSAC and all followup treatment. Walker was told he must attend a victim impact panel and is under supervised probation with Oklahoma Court Services.

Judge Ashwood ordered Walker to report to the Court Clerk’s Office.

The felony count accused Walker of driving on W. 15th Street about Steel Ave. while he was under the influence of alcohol, a BAC of 0.12.

He was also cited for failure to dim headlights aimed at an oncoming car.

In supplemental information filed by Assistant District Attorney Jamie Ramos it shows Walker was convicted on March 6, 2018 in Lincoln County District Court of driving while under the influence of drugs.
