The McLoud City Council, meeting as the Public Works Authority, has adopted a resolution to increase utility rates for residential customers.
By adopting the resolution, the Authority members put in place the increase they passed during their March meting.
City Manager Buck Day has explained the rate increase, “Is 50 cents per 1,000 gallons on water and on sewer. And then it will be 10 cents per 1,000 gallons on each of those after this year for five years,” he added.
Day noted, “This is so we’re assured we can make our loan payments and obtain our grants. We’re doing the 10 cents so we can do a little bit at a time.”
The Authority also voted during its most recent meeting to increase rates for commercial accounts.
The city manager said the rate increases become effective July 1.
The Trustees also decided to eliminate selling bulk water outside of McLoud. “We’re going to keep it lo cal,” Day stressed.
Mayor Stan Jackson pointed out how some out of town businesses are coming and filling up tanks for construction projects and he said, “That isn’t going to happen anymore. Water is a precious resource.”
Day noted during the meeting a guy from Newalla had called him that day because no other community would sell him water. Day said he informed the guy McLoud wasn’t going to either.
The Authority opened bids for a 75 by 100 feet shop barn. The low bid submitted was for $220,671 by Wade Drew Construction. The only other bid was for $304,500.
Authority members voted to accept Wade Drew’s bid for the shop barn that will be built near the sewer plant.
To cover that expenditure, the Authority approved a budget amendment of $220,671.
Meeting as City Council members, they approved a notice of contract award to Urban Contractors for a sewer line replacement project for $308,930.
The Council adopted an ordinance for a rezoning/lot split at 4215 S. Arena Road. Legal Counsel Mike Warwick explained to the Council this was just the ordinance for the action taken at last month’s meeting.
The emergency clause was also approved. Council members also approved new burn permit requirements.
