Even though Meeker’s Town Board of Trustees haven’t approved an Industrial Trust Indenture document yet, some still seem adamant on having two Trust Indentures.
At least that’s what it appears from their meeting on Monday evening of this week.
During their Dec. 18 meeting last year, one of the agenda items was to correct errors on a previously approved Meeker Growth and Development Authority Trust Indenture or create a new Trust Indenture for Meeker Growth and Development Authority.
That previously approved Trust Indenture, created in 2008, was never filed with the Lincoln County Clerk’s Office or the Secretary of State as required.
However, it wasn’t until the fall of last year that it was discovered it hadn’t been filed.
So that indenture has been and still is non-existent legally. Still, nothing has changed in that regard.
There was another item on that Dec. 18 the agenda “to consider or take possible action for the previously approved Trust Indenture or if a new Trust Indenture is approved to allow the Meeker Growth and Development Authority to resume operation.
Both items were tabled during that meeting at the suggestion of the Trustees’ legal counsel James Hodgens so he could work on them.
This past Monday night, Trustees were to consider and take possible action on a new Trust Indenture document for purchasing and selling property for the Town of Meeker’s Industrial Trust Authority.
Mayor Donna Weber appeared to be the only one of the five Trustees ready to do that. Right off the bat, Trustee Aaron Head asked that no decision be made on it that night.
Trustees eventually did just that, putting it off and calling a special meeting for June 3.
Some Trustees indicated they still are planning to have another Trust Indenture for Meeker Growth and Development Committee, as Hodgens acknowledged he is preparing.
He advised Trustees Monday night the 20-page Indenture they had before them is primarily set out by statute, so we’re not sure what Trustees have in mind to change if anything.
The town of Meeker doesn’t need two Trust Indentures. One is sufficient.
The Pumpkin Festival, the Pecan Festival, the Community Garden and similar activities are all good and worthwhile projects that draw vendors and bring consumers to the town and area. A Trust Indenture isn’t needed for those activities, it’s just not.
Why don’t Meeker Growth and Development Committee members join forces with the Meeker Chamber of Commerce for the betterment of the community? We think personalities may be getting in front of what is best for the town is the reason.
It would be much more efficient if the new Trust Indenture document prepared by the attorney is approved and put in place. There is nothing to prevent the Growth and Development Committee from continuing to operate as it has under the new indenture.
