'It Doesn't Stop Here”

(opinion)

Most students at White Rock have played sports or been involved in some form of athletics for half of their lives. There have been kids that have graduated from here and continued playing the sport that they grew up on or tried different sports successfully.

Then there are those who do not continue playing the sports they grew up on. The big guestion is, 'why did they stop?' We may never know.

Some of these kids had true talent in the sports they played here, so when the coaches heard about them guitting, it is always devastating to hear. But why stop here? Student athletes have many more years of growing and learning to do. To the student-athlete reading this, you might be someone now who is on the brink of giving up, but think of who you could become if you continue putting in hard work and dedication to the sport that you love.

Athletes do not have to stop when they graduate, nor when they move schools. They can continue to push themselves and get scholarships from colleges around the United States. And someday be a real inspiration to young student athletes and even adult athletes.

Former college cross country runner, Jennie Murray explained that 'When you have something that you love, in my instance, running, you find other ways to be involved in it once your time of competing has come to an end. By helping with track (at White Rock), I get to be involved in a sport that I loved and learned so much from and teach these girls the things I know about the sport. It's rewarding when you are able to do that!' Jennie Murray is a SWOSU graduate who lettered and was on athletic scholarship for all four years of college.
