Thanksgiving Day 2025 is upon us. As I began to write this, I was still clueless as to what may or may not take place on this day.
But, I learned on Saturday, that we will have our grandson Liam and our son-in-law Terry with us for Thanksgiving Day and dinner.
What I also know for sure, is that it will be missing a central figure as we sit down for a Thanksgiving meal. That’s because of the passing of our daughter Meghan a little more than three months ago.
Meghan was all about the holidays and having the family gather together.
When I first mentioned to Pat several weeks ago the subject of Thanksgiving, she just couldn’t even think about it. She broke down crying. I didn’t realize it was going to be too much for her to even think about or I wouldn’t haven’t even brought up the sujbect.
During the holidays, I’m sure we will have our grandson Liam, who is now seven, with us some and our son-in-law Terry. Terry learned the other day he is ou Thanksgiving Day itself, and some other day during that period.
Pat confirmed for me that Liam, a first grader, is out of school all week for Thanksgiving so I know we will be keeping him some. At least that’s the last word I got on that.
We look forward to spending some time with Liam and his dad for sure.
As I reflect about this month being one of gratitude, especially this day, I think of some things for which I’m grateful.
Among them are our family, even though Meghan is no longer with us, our extended family, my reasonably good health, still being able to work, ability to drive, having good friends and knowing that I have what I consider a spiritual relationship with my Creator.
Even though I have always enjoyed a big meal in the past, what is best about the day is having the family together, sitting down, giving thanks and just visiting. Too often we don’t slow down long enough to appreciate each other as we should.
I would never have thought a year ago that all of our family, including Meghan, would not be with us today.
Little Liam is the sparkle of our life, whether it’s tossing around some of his balls, riding and letting him drive the golf cart or whatever else he wants to do. If it’s nice enough, we’ll go outside.
He loves to go out and enjoy his backyard.
I still like to reflect when I was a kid and growing up and the large Thanksgiving gatherings we would have at my grandparents on my mother’s side of the family.
Wish that could still be, but those days may be gone forever.
