Town Talk

Play ball, baseball season has arrived! The Stroud Middle School season kicks-off next week, Tuesday, March4th.Theseason opener will be against the Prague Red Devils. The game is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. at Stroud Tiger Field. My mom fell and fractured her pelvis at the end of December and one of her first comments after the accident was “I wonder how many ballgames I’ll have to miss?” Well, she’s almost as good as new and just in time for the start of baseball season. If you’re looking for her, she’ll be at the field.

One of Stroud’s beloved coaches and teachers, Roy Grissom, passed away this week in Prague where he had resided for many years. Roy was ninety-five years of age. Roy and his wife Bettye resided in Stroud for several years and even though they left Stroud in 1970, we like to claim them as Stroud’s own. I’m sure every community in which he resided felt the same way as he made an indelible mark wherever he went. The Grissoms raised two children, Sheri Grissom Ripley and Terry Grissom. Roy will be missed by all who knew him.

The Stroud Class of 1978 shared that one of their classmates, Ben Curly, has passed away. There is a memorial service planned for Ben on March 1 st at the oldWarwick School.Town Talk offers condolences to both the Grissom and Curly families and friends.

It’s a quiet week in Stroud with nothing posted on the community calendar. March is just around the corner and as the weather slowly improves, I’m sure the community activities will pick up. I think everyone is ready for Spring. Lyndon Patton of Patton’s Produce says it’s time to wake up your gardens for spring so be sure and visit our local merchants for all you gardening needs. Have a great week and thank you for continuing to shop local……….. first!
