Town Talk

The Stroud Chamber of Commerce is happy to announce a new event this year, a Christmas Cookie Walk. This will take place on Thursday, Dec. 11, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Main Street, Stroud. Downtown businesses will be serving treats while you enjoy the lights. Also, visit the Christmas TreeVillage and vote on your favorite gingerbread house. The Chamber encourages everyone to wear their favorite ugly Christmas sweater. Also, thank you to the Chamber and the City of Stroudforanotherwonderful Christmas parade.

The American Legion Auxiliary’s “WreathsAcross Stroud” will take place this Sunday, Dec. 14 at the Stroud Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. There will be a short program, and then Christmas wreaths will be placed on approximately eight hundred veterans’ graves. It’s December, so it’s going to be cold, but our veterans had to endure all types of weather as they fought for our freedoms. Let’s come together as a community and show we remember. Bundle up and come help the Auxiliary. They need as many volunteers as possible to help lay the wreaths. See you on Sunday!

The Stroud Tigers had another great football season this year. They fought the fight and gave it their all and were just two points shy of taking home the win Friday night against Adair. It was an exciting game and exactly what a play-off game should look like. When teams make it to that level, it should be a head-to-head battle and that’s what both teams gave us. Stroud has a rich football history, and our 2025 Tigers kept the legacy alive. Well done, Tigers!

Congratulations to one of our own, Ryan Bivin, Sand Springs High School principal, on his Sandites winning the State Championship. It was their first time to win the championship since 1966 after defeatingChoctaw32-27. Ryan is the son of Julie Bivin and the late Steve Bivin. He is married to the former Lindsay Trivitt, daughter of Stroud alums Gaye Wheeler Trivitt and the late Gerald Trivitt.

Basketball season is in full swing, and the Tigers will take on the Depew Hornets this Friday night at the high school Coliseum. Let’s get behind our basketball team and cheer them on to a winning season, too.

The Stroud Memorial gym was buzzing on Sunday afternoon with elementary basketball. Thanks to all the coaches who volunteer to coach so these kiddos can begin learning the fundamentals of the game. School ball does not officially start until sixth grade, so these boys and girls are preparing now to be future Tigers.

Janet Place Huwar, Class of 1972, is critically ill and in the hospital in Houston, Texas, where she currently resides. Janet has been a big supporter of Town Talk and American Legion Auxiliary projects and continuously donates to our endeavors, along with her husband, Tom. I thinkTom has learned that when you marry a girl from Stroud, you become a Stroudite yourself. Tom and Janet have remained active in Stroud happenings all the way from Houston. In fact, they were one of the first donors for the Auxiliary’s “Wreaths Across Stroud,” which will take place this Sunday. Janet needs our prayers, so I’m asking our community and alums near and far to pray for healing for Janet.

It’s the Christmas season. In all the hustle and bustle, let us all remember the reason for the season – a King was born! Haveagreatweek, and thank you for continuing to shop local…………….first.
