It’s always hard to believe that after all the preparation for and anticipation of Christmas day, it, like all other days, is only twenty-four hours long. The only difference is that it is the day we remember the birth of Jesus Christ. I’m not sure about Stroud’s other churches but I know First Baptist Church exceeded Pastor Bond’s goal of 100 attendees. I am grateful that our community remembers that “Jesus is the reason for the season.”
Stroud suffered the loss of two of its citizens over this holiday season. One was Amy Bennett Sullivan, wife of Tim Sullivan and mother of Brittney Rogers Nichols and April Rogers Miller. Amy had been battling cancer for some time and as her husband posted on Facebook, “Amy received her angel wings on Christmas Eve morning.” The other was Ann Goodwin Haile, lifelong Stroud resident and member of my graduating class of 1974. Ann worked for the Stroud school system for many years. She is survived by her son, Robert Haile. Town Talk extends its sympathy to these two families.
The community calendar on Facebook shows no activities this week except for the Oklahoma Blood Institute’s blood drive today, Thursday, in Depew from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. They will then move to the Stroud Regional Medical Center from 2:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m.
Thank you to Lavina Hinman, Pat Owens, Jim Hodgens and Thelma Mauldin for their recent donations to the Bugle Boy statue. It is not too late to be a part of this Town Talk project. Check donations may be made out to the City of Stroud and mailed to me at 301 West 6th Street, Stroud, 74079. We are also able to accept Venmo payments. If you have questions, you may call me at 918-527-9833 or e-mail me at towntalk74@gmail.com If you travel down Main Street heading east be sure and check out the renovations done on the old Titus Garage building. That building has needed some attention for years and it finally received them. It looks amazing. The east end of our Main Street is really taking shape. The individual cottages formerly known as the Glen Mae Motel are for sale. It would be nice to see those buildings restored and renovated for historic lodging on Route 66.
It’s been cold outside so I’m sure many of you have stayed in where it was warm. As we begin to see warmer temperatures and if you have suffered from “cabin fever,” you might want to do a little shopping and see what our local merchants have to offer in the way of “after Christmas” sales. If you’re a little tired of turkey and ham and doing your own dishes, check out one of our delicious dining establishments and take a break from the kitchen. Thank you for continuing to shop and dine local…………………….first!
