Thank you again to all who supported our Bugle Boy Project fundraiser last Sunday. It was a huge success. If you attended or saw Facebook pictures you know the waiters wore “fake” mustaches. I hope to goodness you didn’t think they were real even though Bronwyn Howard from Main Street Family Clinic did suggest several of us needed to see her about hormone treatments. Anyway, I ordered those mustaches from Amazon never dreaming I would find them in Stroud. I was at Dollar Tree/Family Dollar last week and wouldn’t you know, right there on their shelf were stick-on mustaches. I promise you, every time I think I can’t get something locally, and after I buy it someplace else, I almost always run across it at one of our retailers. Why can’t I learn to shop locally first, every time, not just “most of the time?” Learn from my mistakes, whatever you’re needing is probably sitting on a shelf in our hometown.
Speaking of our fundraiser, I inadvertently left off Linda Waller’s name on my list of volunteers for the event. Linda helped decorate on Saturday evening and was on hand Sunday to help serve and clean up. She is an active member of Town Talk and has volunteered watering flowers on Main Street since they were planted. She is also an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary joining under her late husband’s service record, John Waller. A big thank you to Linda for all her help. We couldn’t have done it without her.
The Class of 1973 will be celebrating their fifty-year reunion this May. Debbie Willis Austin has created a Facebook page under “Stroud Class of 1973.” She is asking all fellow classmates to join the page so they may be contacted about all the activities that will be held during alumni weekend.
My nephew, Casey Smalley, is a singer/songwriter in Nashville, Tennessee. He has a new single and video that will be released this Friday, February 17th. The record industry has changed a great deal over the years. It’s no longer getting a contract with a record company right off the bat; they want to see your social media numbers and then they’ll take a look at your music. Casey’s goal is to have 1000 pre-saves of his song before the release on Friday. If you get a chance, please go to his Facebook page, Casey Edgar, and pre-save his new single. You can also find the link on Facebook pages Stroud Alumni Association and Stroud Functions and Happenings and I’ve listed it here, also. The song is titled “Things We Don’t Talk About” and is a timely song due to the mental health crisis we are facing in America. Check it out. I know Casey would appreciate the hometown support. The link is: https://ffm.to/ ThingsWeDont Don’t forget about the lesson I learned from not shopping in Stroud first. I write about it every week and still forget to follow my own advice at times. It’s a way of life we need to adopt and if we keep reminding each other, maybe we’ll finally get it. Someone asked on Facebook what the best restaurant in town was and Andy Murfin posted, “all of them.” He’s right and that’s just the kind of positive advertisement our community needs. Have a great week and thank you for shopping local………….first!
