Thursday, April 20th, is a busy day of activities which includes Route 66 Metal Detecting Club at 7:00 p.m. at City Hall, Stroud Community Clothing Ministry open 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and the Stroud Middle School baseball team in Meeker for a game against the Bulldogs at 5:00 p.m. There will be no school on Friday, April 21st.
Congratulations to J. P. Morris on winning a seat on the Stroud School Board and to Raphe Thompson for winning a seat on the Stroud City Council at our recent election. Town Talk wishes the best of luck to them as they serve our community.
The City of Stroud is currently accepting applications for lifeguards for the Stroud swimming pool this summer. You may pick up an application at City Hall. Town Talk is also looking for someone who would be interested in managing/operating the Putt-Putt Kicks on Route 66 mini-golf course.
This would be a paid position. Please contact me, Diana Smalley Reed, at 918-527-9833 for all the details.
Mark your calendars to spend an evening with Will Rogers on Saturday, June 3rd. This is a Town Talk fundraiser and tickets will be $25. You will enjoy dinner, stories, and rope tricks by Will himself. Tickets will be available beginning May 1st.
Have you noticed the flowers on Main Street? Town Talk volunteer Andrea Thompson planted those, and her husband Councilman Raphe Thompson delivered them to Main Street for us.
We will be contacting those of you who have sponsored a flowerpot in the past to see if you want to continue your sponsorship for a cost of $40. This covers the cost of flowers, signage, fertilizer, maintenance and is not a fundraiser. Thanks to all of you who have sponsored this project. It adds to the beautification of Main Street.
Mother’s Day is just around the corner. Don’t wait until the last minute to purchase something special for your mom. It is a day to celebrate all mothers. Flowers always make a nice gift. Stroud merchants are willing and ready to help you pick out the perfect gift. I was visiting with a local resident last week who said she had gone to Wal-Mart to purchase flowers for her yard. They were looking a little sad and wilted. She came back to Stroud and bought healthy, lovely flowers for around the same price. Have a great week and thank you for choosing to shop local………. first!
