First Baptist Church is also hosting a blood drive in conjunction with Our Blood Institute, “Life is Better with Blood Donors,” on Sunday, July 30th from noon to 3:30 p.m. in the Family Life Center. The corner of Highway 99 and 66 is really looking spiffy these days. That is a major intersection for our community and thousands of cars pass through that intersection each month. The latest improvement to the corner is the new paint job at the Feed & Supply store. It’s such a large building that the paint really made a difference and is easily noticeable, especially from that busy corner. Jeff Williams, who owns Kids Convenience store recently renovated the diesel pump area on his corner and it really improved the intersection.

Another eye-catching block is 4th Avenue just north of Main Street. Kyle Anderson and Chong Horwath who both own businesses along this street have it lined with plants and beautiful American flags. Thanks to all businesses who continue to improve their store fronts.

Thanks again to Vivian Henshaw and John Owens for the mural they painted in the pocket park, Pete’s Place, on Main Street. It’s amazing how they made a storage building become a work of art. It sits at the back of the property, so you must look in that direction when you’re driving by to see it. It is a beautiful mural where butterflies abound along with some ladybugs.

I think Vivian and John even let Julie Bivin paint a ladybug or two. Town Talk gives a big shout out to Pete Sawatzky for allowing us to turn his vacant lot into a fun place for kiddos.

Sunday afternoon I was leaving a restaurant in Tulsa, and I was wearing a “Be Kind” t-shirt I bought at Unique Market.

A man was walking towards me, and he was talking but at first I didn’t realize he was talking to me.

As he got closer I heard him say, “Be kind. I need to work on that with my mother.”

We exchanged smiles and went on our different paths. Such a little thing but it did make an impression on me.

Clara Hodgens once told me that t-shirts were cheap advertisement and I thought that was a good point.

This encounter made me realize that we can use t-shirts to not only promote our town or our business but also positive thoughts to others. Wouldn’t it be nice if the whole world practiced a little more kindness?

Our Main Street flowers have taken a beating this year with all the rain and wind.

We have had pots blown over several times and that has never happened before. Andrea Thompson has worked diligently to replant and spruce up the pots.

You may miss those pretty pink petunias that Town Talk planted on Main Street this year, but they had a tough time surviving all this weather. We received so many compliments on the flowers so wanted you to know why they have taken on a new look to end the season.

Putt Putt Kicks on Route 66 continues to be open every Thursday through Sunday nights from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.

Thanks to everyone who comes out to support this community endeavor.

This course is not-forprofit and any monies we receive go back into the golf course.

We appreciate all of you who play a round or two with us.

If miniature golf just isn’t your thing, come enjoy a Johnny Freeze with us.

It’s not too late to buy a brick for the Veteran’s Memorial in Ed. Smalley Centennial Park.

I sent in the first list this week, but names can still be added. They make templates before they come to do the actual engraving, so we still have a few more days on this first order. Call me at 918527-9833 to order yours today.

It’s hard to believe the beginning of school is just around the corner.

Our merchants are stocked and ready to help you meet all your backto- school needs. Stop by one of our local merchants before heading out of town to see if they have that special backpack or school supplies you need to finish your shopping list. Have a great week and thanks for continuing to shop local………… first!
