Mark your calendars, tie a string around your finger and set your alarm to remind yourself to vote on November 5th. All elections are important but especially one where we are deciding who will guide our country, the President of the United States. It’s imperative that we all show up at the polls to help decide this issue. Let’s set a record with the number of votes Stroud casts on November 5th.

The Stroud firefighter’s annual food drive will be held on Tuesday, November 5th beginning at 5:00 p.m. Put your items in a bag and leave your front porch light on so that the firefighters will know to pick up your donation. All items collected will be donated to the Stroud Food Bank.

The Stroud Masonic Lodge is sponsoring an Indian taco dinner on Friday, November 8th from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Stroud High School agricultural kitchen. It is located on the east side of the football field next to the Memorial Gym. Tickets are $8.00 and food is available for dine-in or carry-out. All proceeds will go to Stroud Food Pantry.

In recognition of Veteran’s Day, the American Legion Auxiliary is honoring all veterans and current service men and women on Sunday, November 10th. Buck Taylor of the Will Rogers Museum in Claremore will provide entertainment with his interpretation of Will Rogers. He will also demonstrate Will’s rope tricks and even share some of Will’s political humor. All veterans and their spouses will be admitted free of charge. The public may purchase tickets for $10 and all elementary age children are free of charge with a parent. Tickets may be purchased at Unique Market, Stroud Dry Cleaning or from any Auxiliary member. Pie and coffee/tea will be served. The event will take place at Stroud United Methodist Church at 2:00 p.m.

We have had gorgeous fall weather so as long as the weather cooperates, Putt Putt Kicks on Route 66 will remain open. The hours are Saturday and Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Town Talk is grateful to Pam Hunt and Nissa Hughes for their willingness to manage the golf course. Stop by and say hi to them while playing a round of golf. Also available are horseshoes, dominoes, corn hole and golf chipping.

The Stroud Chamber of Commerce and Stroud’s local businesses will be hosting Main Street Trick or Treat on Thursday, October 31st from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Immediately following there will be a costume contest in the Pavilion. Emerald Hospice will also be hosting a pet costume contest, Congratulations to the Stroud Tigers Junior High football team for scoring a big win on Monday night in Okemah against the Panthers. It was the last game of the season for this team. Congratulations to them on their success this year. Also, the Stroud High School Tigers scored a big homecoming win against Casady with a score of 54-7 this past Friday night. The Tigers will travel to Hennessey this Friday night to play the Eagles with kick-off scheduled for 7:00 p.m. The Tigers remain undefeated in both regular season and District play.

It’s hard to believe that the next paper you receive will be in November which means the holidays are fast approaching. Remember to shop locally, first, before travelling out of town for your holiday fixins.’ Have a great week and thank you for shopping local………….. first!
