The Stroud Tigers football team sadly went down in defeat to the Davis Wolves at the semifinal’s playoff game this past Friday afternoon but not without putting up a valiant fight. The Tigers held the Wolves to only fourteen points with a final score of 14-6.

The Tigers were led “off the field” by head coach Josh Presley and his team of assistants and led “on the field” by senior quarterback Dylan Baker. The Tigers had a great season, and the community is very proud of each coach and player. We are definitely Stroud Proud.

Happy belated birthday to my life-long friend, Pat Poskey. Pat’s children honored her this past Friday with a 90th birthday celebration. Pat and her husband, the late Jack Poskey, raised their four children, Pam, Angie, Gail, and David in Stroud and all are Stroud High School graduates. Pat’s maiden name was Murphy, and she has lived in the Stroud area her entire life.

Pam and I graduated from high school together in 1974 and are both fortunate to still enjoy the company of our mothers. I want to wish my mother, Aleta Walker Smalley, an early happy birthday next Monday, December 9th. Mom will be celebrating her 95th birthday.

The 7th and 8th grade boys’ and girls’ basketball teams are participating in the Prague Basketball Tournament this week. The eighth-grade girls lost their first game in the tournament. The eighth-grade boys defeated Okemah 50-27. They had played Okemah earlier this season, only beating them by one point so I’m sure this was a sweet victory for the Tigers. All players had a chance to see action on the court.

Town Talk wishes to offer their condolences to the family of George Allen White who passed away on November 25, 2024, in Oklahoma City. George graduated with the Stroud High School Class of 1959 and was the son of the late Leo and Blye White and big brother to Doug White, also a Stroud High School graduate. George retired from the Air National Guard with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel following 26 years of service. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the American Heart Association in George’s memory.

Stroud’s Christmas decorations are exceptionally great this year. There are elves everywhere. There is even one sitting on the awning at the Stroud Tag Agency. I guess he got there early to get a front row seat for this Saturday’s Christmas parade. Our local merchants along with the Chamber of Commerce and the City of Stroud have outdone themselves rolling out the Christmas spirit. Let’s do the same and keep our holiday dollars in Stroud, whenever possible. Town Talk hopes everyone had a happy Thanksgiving with family and friends. We thank you for continuing to shop local.............first!
