Mothers Day

We men should have on our minds why this coming Sunday is a special day.

In case you’ve forgotten, this Sunday is Mother’s Day. It’s definitely the day to honor the women in our lives.

That includes the mothers, our married daughters, sisters who are married, grandmothers and other women who do so much for us men and our children.

I called the floral shop recently and made arrangements for flowers to be delivered to the house sometime Saturday, hopefully in the morning.

I also picked out a Mother’s Day card for Pat. It’s definitely not too late if you haven’t had Mother’s Day on your mind, you can still do those things which need to be done.

Choosing a Mother’s Day gift for my wife normally is a challenge. But not this year.

A few weeks ago I figured that out and have had that secured since that time.

I’ll offer to take her out to breakfast Sunday morning. Most of the time, though, she prefers I just pick up something so she can relax and enjoy.

She doesn’t like having to hurry around on “her” day and I get that.

Pat usually wants me to decide what to get so she doesn’t have to make that decision. When the time comes I will. Then we can leisurely enjoy what I choose.

It’s best to let Pat do what she would like on “her” day. I’m not sure what she might want to do about supper. That’s a decision she will need to make. The important thing is keeping her from having to cook.

My job will be to do whatever she decides I need to do to help make it happen. A couple of years ago we invited her mom out and I grilled hamburgers. Pat of course put together the rest of the meal.

If I recall correctly, we did something similar last year.

It’s always a privilege to be the chef, grilling whatever she decides I should cook, especially on occasions like Mother’s Day.

We usually enjoy a nice supper whether at home or out, but more times than not it’s at home. Then, sitting around, continuing to visit while maybe drinking coffee and having a little dessert.

Come this Sunday, we’ll see what she has in mind. Makes no difference to me and of course it really shouldn’t.

At the end of this particular day, I always want Pat to be able to say she enjoyed her Mother’s Day. That’s what is most important.

Happy Mother’s Day to all you mothers.
