Putt-Putt Kicks on Route 66 is open for business.
We are still working out our hours of operation. We will continue to post them on Facebook on the Stroud Functions and Happenings page.
Our goal is to have shade awnings over the course to help with the heat of the day. For now, we are just opening in the evenings. We will be open this week Thursday through Sunday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m.
You may still pay to play golf until 8:30 p.m. but that will allow us to close around 9:00 p.m. We are looking for volunteers to who would like to staff the course during those hours.
Volunteering does not have to be everyday or even the same day of the week.
Please contact me at 918-527-9833 if you are available to help.
Thank you to Vivian Henshaw, Julie Bivin, Aleta Smalley, Kalah Summers, Nancy Smart and Pam Hunt who have agreed to donate some of their time. Town Talk is planning a grand opening in July so watch here for more details.
I spoke with Mary Linda Meredith Pryor this week. It’s always nice to visit with a former Stroudite. Mary Linda now resides in Alaska but graduated from Stroud High School and is a sister to the late life-long Stroud resident Nancy Meredith Brown. She was calling to purchase veteran’s banners for two of her classmates. Another classmate had paid for them and asked her to take care of this for him.
The two banners will be for Don Williams and Jerry Presley. Don is the son of the late Howard Williams, long-time Stroud science teacher. He is a 1960 Stroud graduate and currently resides in Georgia.
Jerry graduated from Stroud High School in 1960, also, and passed away in June 2021. His obituary read, “he had a very special bond with his Stroud classmates and they got together often throughout the years; something Jerry always enjoyed.”
He was the older brother of Mike and Judy. Town Talk is proud to honor these two veterans. Look for their banners to be on display soon.
This past Tuesday, June 14th, was Flag Day. Thank you to the members of the Stroud Lions Club for getting up early to put up flags in the yards of the community members who purchased a subscription to their flag program. My mom loves waking up on patriotic holidays to see her flag waving in her yard.
The late Carlos Mayfield Ward, whose birthday was June 14th, subscribed to the Lion’s program. She would joke how nice it was to see all the people celebrating her birthday by flying flags in their yards.
Carlos was Sammy Mayfield’s sister. Sammy and his wife Marie are great Stroud Town Talk supporters.
They sponsor a flowerpot on Main Street and always donate to our flower fund. We love and appre ciate our Stroud graduates and their spouses.
I have to brag on my great-nephew Gideon. His baseball team, Sandlot Morton OKC, played in a tournament this past weekend in Choctaw. They played five games and won all five of them making them the weekend champions.
On Friday night he pitched and struck out five out of six batters. The one batter he didn’t strike out hit a pop fly that was caught for an out. He hit an over-the-fence homerun on Sunday and closed out the championship game with his final inning of pitching for the weekend.
He also hit an over-the-fence homerun on Sunday. It was a hot but exciting weekend of baseball.
Our next holiday is coming up soon – the Fourth of July.
Don’t wait too late to get all your party supplies right here in Stroud. Thank you for choosing to shop local……first!
