Thank you to Stroud American Legion Commander Mike Horwath, members of the Stroud Post #257 and the Bristow Boy Scouts for holding a flag retirement ceremony this past Monday.
This is the first ceremony of this type that has been conducted in Stroud since our Boy Scout organization disbanded.
We have taken our tattered and torn flags to Canadian Valley Electric Cooperative in Seminole for their retirement the last several years and have been appreciative to be able to do so.
It was nice though to have it held locally. Thanks to everyone, too, who properly disposed of their flags in the flag drop box donated by former Senator Jason Smalley that is located outside of the police station on West 2nd Street.
Congratulations to Mandy Clark on the official grand opening of her Main Street restaurant, Ruby’s. She hosted the grand opening Street Party this past weekend. The outside festivities were cut short due to the rain, but it didn’t dampen the atmosphere. If you haven’t tried out this new dining establishment you should. It has many interesting items on the menu, but Ruby’s specializes in all things “cheesy” – grilled cheese sandwiches and macaroni and cheese. This week has been burger week and there is a special burger every day. The restaurant is open 7 days a week with shortened hours on Sundays and features a brunch menu.
I hear kids are enjoying the activities painted on the concrete pocket park located on Main Street. Thanks again to Elizabeth Lau and Jessica Martinez for painting that area for Town Talk. We still need to add a few finishing touches to the area. Eventually there will be a couple of children’s picnic tables, a library box for books, local children’s handprints on the wall and a sign denoting the name of the park, “Pete’s Place.”
Thank you to local artists John Owens and Vivian Henshaw for jazzing up the Route 66 on the brick at the bottom of the Skyliner Motel’s neon sign. Check it out when you’re dragging Main.
Summer is winding down and I see stores are already beginning to stock their “back to school” supplies.
Seems too hot to already be thinking about the start of school. When you get ready to make those purchases be sure and see what all our local merchants have to offer you. Have a great week and thank you for choosing to…………………… shop local first!
