The Dale girls won their third tournament of the season and picked up their 19th straight win by beating Silo, 60-57, in the finals of the Cashion tournament Saturday.
North Rock Creek brought home a second straight championship, beating Blanchard in the finals of the Washington tournament, and Chandler’s surging boys team came within an eyelash of winning the 66 Conference tournament.
Brook Rutland lit up the nets at Cashion and got progressively better as the tournament progressed. She had 17 in the first round against Clinton, had 21 against Cashion and then went off for 36 in the finals, including 28 in the second half.
The tournament win followed up championships at Kingston and in Dale’s own tournament, the Boomarang Classic. The Lady Pirates are now 19-1 and remain No. 1 in Class 2A.
In Washington, North Rock Creek got a measure of revenge by beating Blanchard. A season ago, Blanchard beat the Cougars in district play and then eliminated them from the playoffs in the area tournament.
Saturday night, though, was NRC’s time, as Jordan Coody, Caleb Hawkins and Devon Haney combined for 36 points, Coody getting 14, Hawkins 12 and Haney 10.
The Cougars were money from the free throw line in the second half, hitting 19 of 21. David King and Coody were 4-for-4 each, Hawkins was 4-of-5,Haney 3-of-4 and Jace McRay and Seven Cawvey were 2-for-2 each.
At the 66 Conference tournament in Okemah, the Seminole and Chandler boys knocked off the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds on Friday, setting up an exciting game in the finals on Saturday.
Seminole, 5-5 going into the tournament, beat topseeded and previously unbeaten Prague, 50-4, in the semis while Chandler, 7-6 going into the tournament, came from behind to beat second-seeded McLoud, 6658.
Seminole led by one, 21-20, at halftime in the finals, but Chandler played lock-down defense in the third quarter, taking three charges and holding the Chieftains to 10 points.
The Lions led by 11 at point and were up 39-31 going into the fourth quarter, but Seminole put together a streak and sent the game into overtime.
Seminole spurted to a five-point lead in overtime, but Chandler cut it to two before the final buzzer.
Cael Reherman had 16 points to lead Chandler, Zalen Robinson had 13, Alec Jackson had 10 and Brad Beloncik had three three-pointers and nine points.
McLoud rebounded from the semifinals to beat Prague, 61-45, to win the third-place game. In the girls’ bracket, Stroud beat Seminole, 66-33, to win third place.
Wellston’s boys brought home the third-place hardware from Tonkawa’s North Country Tournament with a 55-54 win over Tonkawa.
