Davenport rolled past Weleetka in its opener Friday night, whipping the Outlaws 46-0 and getting revenge for a 32-28 loss in last year’s opener.

Caron Funk completed seven passes for 176 yards and Casey Harelson touchdowns of 7, 51 and 26 yards and had two twopoint conversions for the Bulldogs, who led 32-0 after the first period.

“I thought we played a real good game on Friday,” Davenport head coach John Greenfield said. “We got over some early jitters and played real well on both sides of the ball.

“We got to play a lot of young men Friday night.”

A year ago, Weleetka knocked off Davenport, 32-28, in the opener, but it turned out to be one of only two regular season losses for the Bulldogs, who rolled to the state semifinals.

Joseph Acord led the Davenport defense with four solo and two assisted tackles. Campbell Mill, Harrelson, Jayce Phillips and A.J. Jenkins had two solo tackles each.

This Friday, the Bulldogs head to Wetumka for a 7 p.m. game with the Chieftains

“Wetumka seems to be in a rebuilding year,” Greenfield said.

“They don’t have numbers, but they do have some skilled kids that pose a big threat.”
