Eight area teams advance to regional

Area teams made a strong showing in district softball play, with eight winning championships and advancing to next week’s regional tournaments.

Two teams from each regional tournament will advance to the state tournament, which will be played at the Firelake fields in Shawnee.

The Class 4A/5A/6A tournament will be Tuesday and the Class B/A/2A/3A tournaments on Wednesday.

Carney

In district: Wins over Oilton (14-2 and 3-2) Sara Kirkpatrick stroked a double to score Emmalynn Drake with the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning Wednesday to give the Lady Bulldogs a 3-2 win and the district championship over Oilton.

Carney won the first game of the district by a 12-2 count, but Oilton scored twice in the top of the third to take a 2-1 lead in the second game. Carney tied it in the bottom of the sixth when Chloe Freeman hit a two-out single to score Ashtyn Stokes.

Kirkpatrick led the Carney offense, going 3-for-4 with two RBI. She put the Lady Bulldogs on the board in the first inning when she singled to score Drake, foreshadowing the seventh-inning game-winner.

She also pitched, walking only one and throwing strikes on 46 of her 65 pitches.

In the first game, Summer Keller had a home run and three RBI, Kirkpatrick was 2-for-3 with a double and four RBI and Gracie Hernandez had two this and three RBI.

The win put Carney into the regional tournament, facing Leflore at 1:15 p.m. Tuesday at Asher.

Chandler

In district: Wins over Santa Fe South (15-0) and Berryhill (12-0 and 18-0) The Lady Lions dominated their district tournament on Thursday, winning three games by a combined 45-0 score.

Chandler flexed some power in all three games, hitting five home runs.

Kennedy Allen powered three, including a howitzer that landed high on the roof of the old track building behind the right-field wall. Ruthie Capps launched one against Berryhill and Payslee Massengale went deep in the final game with two aboard.

Brenlee Corea had a triple and three RBI in the game against Santa Fe South. Ruthie Capps had three RBI and Massengale was 2-for-2 with two RBI.

In the first Berryhill game, Rylee Capps had two doubles and four RBI. In the second, Corea was 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles, Massengale and Allen each had four RBI and Halle Herrmann had two doubles and a pair of RBI.

The sweep put Chandler into the regional tournament at Washington against Byng at 1:15 on Wednesday.

A win would pit the Lady Lions against the winner of the Washington-Woodward game.

Dale

In district: Wins over Fairview (21-0 and 14-4) The top-ranked DLPs rolled through their district like Sherman marching through Georgia, winning 21-0 and 14-4.

In the first game, Dale had 21 hits in 29 at-bats, a team batting average of .724. Daley Lang had a homer and four RBI, Holland Herring had a dinger and three RBI and Kelbey Welcher homered.

In the second game, the Lady Pirates were 14-for-24 as a team and got home runs from Reese Herring, who had four RBI, and Holland Herring, who had three.

Dale hosted its regional on Tuesday, facing Mangum at noon.

Davenport

In district: Wins over Welch (13-0) and Frontier (21-1 and 15-0) The Lady Bulldogs had no problems in their district, dispatching Welch, 13-0, and Frontier, 12-1 and 15-0.

In the Welch game, the Lady Bulldogs scored 13 runs on 10 hits, with a triple by Landry Miller the biggest blow.

Leftfielder Briley Hauk hit a home run and had four RBI in the first Frontier game and Nevah Ray had a double.

In the finals, Autumn Gaylord was 2-for-4 with four RBI and Ashlyn Walker, Caden Blair, Gabby Murfin and Miller had triples.

For regionals, Davenport treks to Kiowa to face Roff at 1:15 on Thursday. Kiowa and Kremlin-Hilldale play in the noon game.

McLoud

In district: Wins over Seminole (23-0) and Roland (11-0 and 13-1) McLoud got some big offensive performances in rolling through the district.

Jasci Schafer had four hits and seven RBI to pace a 23-0 win over Seminole in the first round and Kayse Higdon had a homer, double and single and drove in five runs in the final, a 13-1 win over Roland.

Higdon was a force in all three games, banging two doubles against Seminole and another in the semifinal, an 11-0 win against Roland.

The Lady Redskins got a close-to-home regional, going to Tecumseh, where they faced Ft. Gibson at 1:15 on Wednesday. Tecumseh and Guthrie had the noon game.

North Rock Creek

In district: Wins over Cache (11-1) and Muldrow (10-7 and 12-2) Jaden Clifton and freshman Kassidy Streber homered in each of the Lady Cougars’ first two district games as NRC rolled against Cache and Muldrow.

In the opener against Cache, Clifton had two RBI, Streber had three and Laynee Joyner had four.

In the first Muldrow game, Streber had four RBI and Aspyn Harder had a triple and three RBI in the second one.

North Rock Creek headed south for the regional, going to Lone Grove to face Elgin at 1:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Lone Grove and Plainview played in the noon game.

Prague

In district: Wins over Hinton (10-0) and Chelsea (16-0 and 13-2) The Lady Devils spread the offensive glory in their district tournament.

Ainsley Auld homered and drove in three runs in the opener against Hinton and Maddie Roberts homered.

In the first game against Chelsea, Kacey Cantrell was 3-for-4 with a triple and four RBI and Taelyr Norman added a triple.

In the finals against Chelsea, Emma Hinkle homered and had three RBI, Jaylee Oldham had a triple and knocked in four runs and Auld was back with a triple and three RBI.

For regionals, Prague headed to Kingston for a noon game against Silo on Tuesday.

Stroud

In district: Wins over Community Christian (31-0) and Haskell (12-6 and 16-1) Loss to Haskell (10-3) The Lady Tigers won their district the hard way, falling to Haskell in the winners’ bracket and having to win back-to-back games to advance.

Brynleigh Bell, Miyah Clark and Brooklyn Baker provided the offensive oomph, combining for 11 home runs and 39 RBI.

Bell went yard five times and had 17 RBI, Clark hit four homers and had 17 RBI and Baker had two home runs and five RBI.

The Lady Tigers advanced to regional play at Latta where they faced the host Lady Panthers on Tuesday.
