Horns 42, Lions 13

Lone Grove scored early and often Friday night and sent the Chandler Lions home with a 42-13 loss.

The Class 3A Longhorns scored their first touchdown three and a half minutes into the game and didn’t slow down.

They led 28-7 at the half 35-7 midway through the third quarter.

It was Lone Grove’s first win of the season after close losses to Anadarko and Plainview.

“We came out very flat,” Chandler coach Jack Gray said. “How we expected to come over here and win without have to try to win.

“It started in warmups. We were lackadaisical and not very focused and mature.”

The loss leaves Chandler with a 1-1 record going into this week’s Homecoming clash with Class 4AClinton, historically one of the state’s elite football programs.

It’s part of Clinton’s traditionally challenging non-district schedule. The Lions traditionally schedule a couple of Class 3Aand 4A opponents to go along with traditional rival Stroud.

“That’s what non-district is all about, finding out where you are and what you need to get better as a team,”Graysaid.“Weknow we have to get better at our focus, especially coming off a week like Stroud, a rivalry game when everyone’s pumped up for it.

“Sometimes you can get somewinsandyoudon’tsee the things you were bad at, just because you got the win.

“This loss definitely is going to show us where we’re struggling and what we’re bad at.”

Lone Grove opened scoring with a burst through middle early in the first quarter.

Chandler tied it later in the quarter when Clayton Ritchie found Darius Wade for a touchdown pass.
