North Rock Creek’s Cougars didn’t get their first win last week, but head coach Jason Murray found a lot of positives in their play

NRC went west to face a powerful Crescent Tigers squad that is off to a 2-0 start.

“The kids played hard and never gave up,” Murray said.

North Rock Creek, which is in its first year of varsity football and is playing an independent schedule, trailed 22-0 after one period and 35-0 at the half.

“They’re a good team - a big team - with lots of tradition,” Murray said.

“We cut down on procedure penalties from the week before. At times, the run game has been good. It’s just getting more consistent.

“We try to make it as simple as we can so they can play fast and not think.”

The Cougars are off to Konawa this Friday and won’t play their first home game until Week 4.

Still, Murray said, the Cougars’ fans have travelled well, including to far east Oklahoma for the opener in Heavener.

“We’ve had great crowds, fantastic,” he said. “They really come out to support to support the kids.”
