Hall of Fame inductee

Davenport Head Football Coach John Greenfield was inducted into the Oklahoma Eight Man Football Coaches Hall of Fame last Friday night at a banquet in Miami, Okla.

Greenfield, whose teams have amassed 203 victories during his 19 years as Davenport’s Eight Man football coach, is about to begin his 20th season as the Bulldogs’ head mentor.

Greenfield garnered his 200th win this past season as the Bulldogs cruised past Alex 36-0 in their homecoming contest.

Among those in attendance to see him inducted into the Hall of Fame were his wife Nikki, his daughter Mandy Greenfield and her son Maddox, his daughter Brandi Ricketts and her son Brady and husband Willy along with C.A. Wilson and his wife Nikki.

Wilson played on his first team in 2004 and currently serves as a Davenport assistant football coach.

He’s coached football for 35 years and 28 of those have been as a head coach, he said.

Speaking about the Hall of Fame induction, the veteran head coach said, “It really didn’t hit me until I got up in front of 500 people to accept the award.”

Greenfield said in his 28 years as a head football coach his teams have won 224 games.

He’s won one state championship at Davenport and his teams have been runner up twice.

“We’ve made nine semi-final appearances. We’ve only missed going to the quarterfinals twice, losing in the first round.

“We haven’t missed going to the playoffs in 19 years,” he added.
