Contested school board races develop

The three-day filing period for school board offices held last week produced races in four Lincoln County school districts with five others winning when no one filed against them.

Those who have won offices without opposition include: Agra: Brien Gladden. Carney: Jeremy Gibbs. Chandler: Matthew White.

Davenport: Gary Robinson Meeker: Stacie Miller. Each is for Office No. 3 and a five-year term unless otherwise noted.

Races that developed include these Office 3 seats.

Prague: Adam Hogue, Rhonda Cruz, Rainey Carter, Winford Navrath.

Concerning Prague, Lincoln Election Board Secretary Melissa Stambaugh has explained that since more than two candidates filed for the same position, a primary election will be held Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2023. If one of those candidates receives more than 50 percent of the vote, that candidate will be named the elected official.

If no candidate receives more than 50 percent, then the two receiving the highest number of votes will vie for the position in the April 4 General Election.

Stroud: Shane Niccum, James P. Morris.

Wellston: Dorothy Swanda, Bradley Pittman.

White Rock: David M. Brockman, Peyton A. Peters. White Rock is for a three-year term.

Stambaugh has explained also if only two candidates file for an office, then they will appear on the General Election ballot April 4 and that will be the case with the above three school districts.

In area Pottawatomie County school districts, four candidates have won without opposition when no opponent filed against them. With the exception of Gordon Cooper Technology Center, they are for Office No. 3.

They include: Dale: Ronnie Newton. North Rock Creek: Brian Blansett.

McLoud: Bobby Howard. Gordon Cooper Technology Center Office No. 5: Tyler Wilburn.
