Eight young men and women are this year’s recipients of the Gordon Richards, Sr. Achievement Award sponsored by Tim and Jamie Barrick and Gordon Richards, Jr.This is the 80th year for the award that was originated in 1946 by the late Gordon Richards, Sr., and the late Otto Krause.

Couple pleads guilty to child abuse charges

A woman from Meeker and a Shawnee man, each charged with three felonies, and who previously pleaded innocent to all the counts, have now pleaded guilty all of the charges.Eachdreweitherdeferred or deferred and suspended prison sentences.

4 students awarded $2,500 scholarships at Pott County Premium Sale

Four annual $2,500 scholarships were handed out prior to the Premium Sale at the Pottawatomie CountyJunior Livestock Show.Suzanne Gilbert, PCJLSCommitteechairperson, explained the scholarships are made possible from the investments with the Community Foundation of Oklahoma.

Chandler alum makes WSU Dean’s Honor Roll

Jackie Haskell from Chandler was named to the Wichita State University Dean’s Honor Roll for the Fall 2024 semester.To make the honor roll, students must earn at least a 3.5-grade point average on a 4.0 scale and be full-time enrolled in at least 12 credit hours.

Stroud City Council accepts REAP grant

The Stroud City Council voted to accept a 2024-2025 Rural Economic Action Plan (REAP) grant to replace waterlines at the Service Plaza on Turner Turnpike and Briarwood Housing north of the plaza in its monthly meeting on Feb. 13.

Luther woman pleds no contest to felony child abuse

A Luther woman scheduled to go on trial this month for felony child abuse has entered a no contest plea and been handed a deferred term.Candice Elizabeth Bootenhoff, 39 at the time, was formally charged Oct. 31, 2022 in Lincoln County District Court with felony child abuse.

Chandler woman pleads guilty to several charges

A Chandler woman facing several felonies and misdemeanors following her arrest by law enforcement officers in 2023 and 2024 has entered guilty pleas to all the charges.Formal charges were originally filed Aug. 2, in Lincoln County District Court against Desmyn Cheyenne Hill, 30.

Chandler HS bowling team competes at state

The Chandler High School Boys Bowling team won their way to the state tournament in the Regional Tournament, held at Rt. 66 Bowl in Chandler on Feb. 15. They qualified for bracket play at the competition in Enid; however, they were eliminated by Elgin High School.
