Our first Halloween together

The day started off as a normal Saturday usually does. Sleep in, eat breakfast, get ready for the day, leave for work. I had a few things on my agenda to do which included taking photos of my cousins football game, having coffee with an old friend and covering the Trunk or Treat event in Wellston.

October ice storm

I was planning to work from home and stay off the roads Tuesday morning, but the power went off on our part of the rural route about 9 a.m. and plunged the household into the Pre-Technology Dark Ages.

1. Update on Glenncrest Park A. Seven loads of sand were delivered to the park for the new concrete contractor to spread out to level the ground. B. Britches Ryerson has been chosen to do our new concrete parking lot. His crew will start putting forms in place next week.

Looking back on Halloween

This year’s Trick-or-Treat night and related activities are going to be different probably in most areas of our state for sure. Of course, that’s because of COVID-19 that has impacted so many activities and events throughout communities, our cities and towns in Oklahoma and across the country.

It has been fun watching the progress on Lyndon and Lisa Dervin Patton’s new building being built on the east end of Main Street. I drive by when I’m out, but Lyndon has also been keeping us updated on Facebook.

A few days back the wife & I were in Dodge City, Kansas. When we went to a restaurant down the street for breakfast we met Charlie Meads (Special Deputy US Marshal). He was decked out in western attire, spurs & all. I asked him if he rode his horse into town & he said, not this morning.

The first inkling that the weekend would be unusual was at the Chandler-Millwood football game Friday. A lady who was working one of the sticks on the chain gang was having trouble getting an arm into the sleeve of her orange vest, so I held it up for her.

1. Update on Glenncrest Park A. Adventure World has resolved the problem with grass growing through the original matting. They came in and removed the mulch and matting, replaced the matting with new and then replaced the mulch. Inspection has shown no grass. B.
