Davis 14, Stroud 6

Stroud’s magical season ended prematurely Friday when the Davis Wolves up-ended the previously unbeaten Tigers, 14-6, in the state semifinals at Noble.Davis advanced to the Class 2A-II state championship game at UCO on Saturday.

Wrestling isn’t new in Oklahoma. It’s been around for ages, producing top wrestlers like Olympian Kendall Cross from Mustang and local Lincoln County legend Jerry Best, who is the only undefeated four-time state champion from Chandler High School.

Falcons 22, Lions 7

Millwood had two big scoring plays and made them stand up for the win Friday in the state quarterfinals.The final was 22-7 over Chandler, but it belies the closeness of the game.

Stroud manhandled Salina, 56-21, Friday night and heads to Noble Friday for a Class 2A-II state semifinal match with Davis.Stroud led, 14-0, after the first period and then removed all suspense from the game with four secondquarter touchdowns.The Friday game kicks off at 1 p.m.

Chandler head coach Jack Gray said the Lions wanted to make a statement Friday night against Hugo.Boy, did they. After leaving the playoffs early last year, Chandler dominated the Buffaloes and barged into the second round of the playoffs with 35-0 win.

Stroud continued to roll Friday night, whacking Community Christian, 4512, and advancing to the second round of the Class 2A-II playoffs.The Tigers host Salina, 7-4 and 26-12 winners over Henryetta last week, at 7 p.m. Friday.

Davenport falls in first round

The Davenport Bulldogs saw their 2024 football season come to an end last Friday, dropping a 52-7 decision to Wilson- Henryetta during a first round playoff contest on the road.It was the Bulldogs’ 21st consecutive year to make the playoffs, Coach John Greenfield noted.

Chandler splashed through a steady rain Friday night, beating Dewey, 35-6, and securing the home field advantage for the first round of the Class 2A playoffs this week.As the runnersup in District 2A-4, the Lions will host the Hugo Buffaloes, the third-place team in district 2A-3 at 7 p.m.
