Sparks man sentenced on felonies

A Sparks man who earlier pleaded no contest to four counts has been sentenced.Formal felony charges were filed May 4, 2022 in Lincoln County District Court against James Leonard Smothers, then 41, following his arrest by Lincoln County deputies.He pleaded no contest in November to the court counts.

Chandler will hold its winter sports homecomings in the coming days. Assemblies for wrestling and basketball will be Thursday at 8:05 a.m. in the Freeman Fieldhouse. Wrestling homecoming will be Thursday evening, with the coronation at 6 in the Freeman Fieldhouse.

Rape cases set for trial

A defendant facing two first degree rape charges has been scheduled for a jury trial in February.Two felony charges of first degree rape with a victim under 14 were filed in Lincoln County District Court Jan. 24, 2023 against Dakota Shane Murch, 44.

Crashes in the construction

Accidents on the turnpike are not an uncommon occurrence. However, with construction underway to replace a bridge near the Wellston exit, the risk has increased for drivers.According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP), there have been 20 crashes in that area since August 2024.
