Barbie Ann Mackey

Barbie Ann Mackey, 63, of Seminole, Okla., was born Jan. 26, 1958, and died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2021. She held a degree in equine management from Oklahoma State University - OKC and worked at Remington Park. She was preceded in death by her parents Warren and Barbra Sherrell.

Can you believe Christmas is going to be here in just a little over 3 weeks? I find it hard to believe until I drive down Main Street and see all the beautiful decorations. The tree in Ed. Smalley Centennial Park is absolutely gorgeous and I love the new red banners adorning the light poles.

LCOS is back

After a hiatus due to COVID, Lincoln County On-Stage is back with its first production of the new season, Wise Women by Ron Osborne and directed by Lusetta Fennell. Production dates for this heartwarming Christmas production are December 3, 4, 10, and 11 at 7:30 p.m. and December 5 at 2:00 p.m.

A different location this year

Last week’s Thanksgiving marked the first time Pat and I had celebrated the holiday out of town, away from our home. Pat and I have been married more than 43 years so that’s kind of a milestone for us.

Holiday activities, events on schedule

Meeker, Chandler and Stroud have holiday activities this week, beginning with Chandler’s tree lighting from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on the lawn at the Lincoln County Courthouse. The event includes decorating contests, music, an ugly sweater contest and the tree lighting at 7:30 p.m.

Signs of the season

The Chandler Library held its last story time of the year before Thanksgiving and featured seasonal crafts in addition to reading stories. Library staff helped participants trace handprint turkeys and decorations for a Christmas tree that is displayed in the library window.

Eight years in starvation case

A Lincoln County District Judge has sentenced the step-mother who was convicted of child neglect by a jury in late October. District Judge Cindy Ashwood on Tuesday followed the recommendation of the jury and handed Amy Adkins Jones eight years in the custody of the Department of Corrections.

School board elections

The three-day filing period for school board offices opens next Monday, Dec. 6, and runs through Wednesday, Dec. 8. Election Board offices in Lincoln and Pottawatomie Counties will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
